Who we are

What's for Dinner is operated by Robinsight Limited, a company registered in New Zealand. When we say “we”, “us”, or “our” in this policy, we mean Robinsight Limited.

What data we collect

We collect the following personal information when you use What's for Dinner:

  • Account information — email address, name, and profile picture (provided via Google or Apple sign-in)
  • Preferences — dietary requirements, cooking skill level, and kitchen equipment
  • App content — recipe history, meal plans, shopping lists, and household membership
  • Usage data — how you interact with the app (pages visited, features used), collected via PostHog analytics
  • Error data — crash reports and diagnostic information, collected via Sentry

How we use your data

  • Managing your account and authenticating your identity
  • Generating personalised recipes using AI, tailored to your household's preferences, skills, and equipment
  • Powering meal planning and shopping list features
  • Enabling household sharing so members can collaborate on meals
  • Processing subscription payments
  • Improving the app through analytics and fixing issues through error monitoring

Third-party services

We do not sell your data. The following third-party services process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — authentication and database hosting
  • Stripe — payment processing. Stripe handles your card details directly; we never see or store your payment card information.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — application hosting and AI-powered recipe generation via AWS Bedrock (Claude). All data is processed in the Sydney region (ap-southeast-2).
  • PostHog — product analytics to understand how the app is used
  • Sentry — error monitoring and crash reporting

Data storage and security

Your data is stored on servers in the AWS Sydney region (ap-southeast-2) in Australia. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard encryption protocols.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days. Some anonymised, aggregate data (such as recipe popularity statistics) that cannot be linked back to you may be retained.

Your rights under the NZ Privacy Act 2020

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to correct any inaccurate personal information
  • Deletion — request that we delete your account and personal data

Cookies and tracking

We use PostHog for product analytics to understand how people use What's for Dinner. We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers.

Children

What's for Dinner is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
