Cart Filler Privacy

What the Cart Filler is
What's For Dinner — Cart Filler is a Chrome extension you install yourself. It does one job: it takes the shopping list you already built in What's For Dinner and puts those items into your supermarket's online cart, so you're not retyping thirty ingredients into a search box.
It fills the cart. You place the order — always.
Which supermarkets it works on
It only works on four New Zealand supermarkets:
- Woolworths — fills your cart for you
- New World — fills your cart for you
- PAK'nSAVE — fills your cart for you
- FreshChoice — opens the site with your list alongside, so you can add the items yourself
FreshChoice runs a separate site per store, and they vary too much for us to add things safely. So we don't. There, the extension shows your list and a search link for each item, and you do the adding.
What goes into the cart
By the time the extension runs, the app has already chosen and priced the exact product for each item on your list, at your store. The extension adds that product using the store's own product code. No searching, and no near-enough substitute.
It also adds the right pack quantities. If the week needs 2.5 kg of chicken, the app works out that it takes two 1 kg packs and one 500 g pack, and the extension adds exactly that.
When we don't have an exact product for something, and only then, the extension falls back to searching the store the way you would. If nothing in the results is a confident match, it leaves the item for you with a search link rather than putting the wrong thing in your cart.
What it reads
Two things: your current shopping list, and the stores you chose in What's For Dinner. It asks our server for them using the What's For Dinner session your browser already holds. If you're not signed in, it gets nothing.
Where that goes
Nowhere. Your list stays between your browser and our server.
- It sends nothing to third parties
- There is no analytics inside the extension
- It stores nothing outside your own browser
- It never collects payment details or authentication details
On our own server we record that a list was fetched, as a count. Never the item names. Never the store.
What it can never do
- It cannot press checkout
- It cannot see or touch your payment details
- It cannot place an order
- It doesn't even load on checkout, payment, or order pages
We fill the cart. You place the order — always.
That isn't a setting you could switch off by mistake. The extension carries no checkout code, and it doesn't run on those pages in the first place.
The Chrome permissions it asks for
storage— remembers where it got to in a fill, so reloading the page doesn't start you over.tabs— knows which tab is the supermarket tab, so it fills the cart you're actually looking at.scripting— runs the add-to-cart steps on the supermarket page. This is the part that does the work for you.- The four supermarket sites — woolworths.co.nz, newworld.co.nz, paknsave.co.nz, freshchoice.co.nz — the only shopping sites it runs on. Every other site on the web is off limits to it.
- api-prod.newworld.co.nz and api-prod.paknsave.co.nz — New World and PAK'nSAVE keep the cart itself on a separate address from the storefront. Same add-to-cart step, just at the address those stores use for it.
- app.whatsfordinner.nz — our own site, so it can read your shopping list and the stores you chose.
Removing it
Open chrome://extensions and click Remove. Nothing of yours goes with it, because it never kept anything outside your browser. Your What's For Dinner account and your shopping list are untouched.
If this changes
The extension is still in beta, so it will change. If what it reads, or where that goes, ever changes, we update this page before we ship it. If anything here doesn't match what you see, email us and tell us where we slipped.
